I’m one month through with this thing. Today was probably the worst day. I didn’t so much get the keto flu as I caught an actual cold. I’ve been feeling like crap all day. I couldn’t sleep at all. I kept hacking stuff up. Convinced I had an infection, I went to the Patient First (which is just like an urgent care center) and after a culture was taken, they said it came back negative for strep. I guess that was a relief. They also didn’t say anything about any viral infection, but just said I should take it easy today. I had no other choice. I was completely devoid of energy.
Given that I was sick all day with a wrecked throat, I didn’t really feel like eating much of anything. I had a mini Slim Jim around 2 pm, which didn’t help anything. I got some chamomile tea which was soothing, but not long term. I found a can of Campbell’s chicken broth and drank some of that, but I couldn’t taste anything. I made myself a steak that was in the fridge but set the fire alarms off, and I went fridge to stove so it was tough as hell, anyway. I’m just glad the day is about over. It’s the longest day, ever. The only bright spot was the sugar free popsicle I had, which had 4 carbs, almost doubling the entire amount I’d had throughout the day.
Calories-wise, today was a bust. I had a total of 181 calories. That’s with everything I ate today. Actually, it’s about to change as I eat this string cheese. So, with my correction, I’ve had 251 calories on the day. I also put on 3 lbs in the past few days. I’d really like to believe that’s fat being turned into muscle, but I’m skeptical. Good thing I’m in this for 90 days or I’d start freaking out. I haven’t been eating badly, other than going over with protein. But that can’t cause weight gain like that, if my calories are still low, can it? Hmm.
MyFitnessPal logged me as having:
- 18 out of the allowed 142 g of fat, accounting for 64% of my calories; target is 75%
- 16 out of the allowed 85 g of protein, accounting for 25% of my calories; target is 20%
- 8 out of the allowed 20 g of net carbohydrates, accounting for 11% of my calories; target is 5%
I’m really glad the day is over with. Just looking forward to sleeping (again) and getting the hell out and away from this cold.
